Home made BBQ Sauce

Sauces can be the main offenders to sneaking sugars, preservatives, and other undesirable chemicals into our diets. This home made bbq sauce lets you enjoy many of your typical comfort foods- minus the sneaky stuff!

Home made BBQ sauce paired with crock pot pulled pork, Best Butternut Squash Side & Paleo Cornbread!

Ingredients

  • 8 oz organic crushed tomatoes

  • 1 tsp garlic infused olive oil, or plain olive oil

  • 2 tsp liquid smoke

  • 1 ½ Tbsp organic grade A dark maple syrup or raw honey

  • 2 Tbsp organic apple cider vinegar

  • 1 tsp black pepper

  • 1 tsp salt

  • Dash of chili powder, chipolte chili powder, and cayenne pepper to taste

  • 1 tsp garlic powder (if using plain oil)

Preparation

  1. For immediate use: combine all ingredients in a medium sauce pan and simmer over med/low heat until combined

  2. To prep for later use: combine all ingredients in a glass mason jar and mix well.  Refrigerate up to 2 weeks.

Tips

This bbq sauce has just the right amount of sweet and tart, but feel free to adjust these amounts with more/less vinegar and syrup.  You can also adjust the heat to your preference by adding more or less spice! This sauce pairs well with pulled pork, chicken, and for a healthy version of sloppy joe’s with either lean ground beef or turkey!

Per 1 Tbsp:  14cal; 0g fat; 0g pro; 2.7g carb

Per 1 Cup: 230cal; 4.7g fat; 4g pro; 43g carb
